AGRI-PV SYSTEM: COMBINING SOLAR ENERGY PRODUCTION WITH FOOD PRODUCTION AND CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION (“AGRIPV_BRAZIL”)
The main objective of this project is to promote a sustainable land intensification solution by creating a pilot Agri-PV system that combine electrical energy production from PV panels with food/feed production, contributing for a climate-friendly energy transition in Brazil.
To achieve the main goal, the following specific objectives have been established:
§Installing a pilot experimental station with the Agri-PV system in Brazil to measure and monitor electrical energy production and food/feed production over time;
§Evaluating the efficiency of the electrical energy production in a PV system integrated with agriculture;
§Establishing agricultural systems (e.g., vegetables, grains and/or pasture) coupled with photovoltaic power plant, and evaluate the performance (growth and yield) of cultivated crops;
§To measure the soil C sequestration in the Agri-PV and reference systems (PV and agriculture);
§To evaluate the impacts of Agri-PV system in key soil-related ecosystem services (soil biodiversity; water regulation, nutrient cycling, erosion control, etc);
§To generate data to foster electrical energy and agriculture sector synergies, to support energy policy regulations, climate change agreements and international commitments;
§Agri-PV performance estimation model refinement.
